Thanksgiving Tablescape
Posted on October 02 2022
Have you ever decorated for Fall or Thanksgiving without a traditional colour palette?
People get it in their heads that fall has to be shades of orange, yellows, and reds. But it doesn’t have to be!
I love a fresh farmhouse fall design.
It’s the soft watercolour palette of whites, blues, and greys that feel so calm to me.
I designed my Thanksgiving table this year with non traditional colours, and I’m loving it!
This farmhouse Thanksgiving tablescape keeps those gentle colours I love!
Here are some of my tips for decorating a Farmhouse Thanksgiving Tablescape. I’ve even added a quick video at the end so you can see exactly how I set it all up.
Pick Your Favourite Textiles
One of my favourite tablerunners this season is the Watercolour Pumpkin pattern we carry at Spruce Park Ranch. Turns out I’m not alone as it is a customer favourite.
I have had this on my sideboard since August but for Thanksgiving, it’s going on the main stage… the dinner table.
I also chose the coordinating watercolour pumpkin napkins and added additional texture in the basket weave napkin ring. I love real napkins.
Soft Colours
To keep the colours soft throughout the whole design, I used the Moondance Greenery garland along the table and the matching wreath in the centre. This greenery collection has the same tones as the table runner. In the garland and wreath, there’s a little bit of soft orange in the affixed pumpkins and a blush tone in some of the foliage.
For a bit more texture, I added Sungold Barley stems into the garland. This not only gives another texture, but it ties in with tones of the napkin rings.
The trick is to tie everything back in someway without being matchy matchy!
Add In a Feature
Because I used a garland all down the table, I wanted to keep the feature as one thing, and that is the Harvest Pumpkin in white. To accent the pumpkin, I used those same soft colours found in the table runner and napkins with the pumpkins that nestle next to the feature white pumpkin. They are all sitting cozy and comfy!
Reuse What You Have
Bring out those things you had for years! We use our white dishes every single day. Sure, I have other ones for, but I love plain old white dishes as much as a fancy set.
To give a little touch of glam, I pulled out wine glasses that were given to me and my husband when we were married over 20 years ago, and they are still one of my favourite patterns to this day.
And to touch it off, I dug out of storage the gold plated cutlery we were given by my grandparents as a wedding present. They only come out for special occasions, but I marvel at how even they always have a modern feel to them.
Start with the textiles you love and build from there. My formula has always been linens, florals/greenery, layering, and then your accessories. I look for accessories that compliment or go with my base, things that mean something to me, and something that just might add a little fun.
If you are looking for more inspiration, you can find pretty much everything I featured online or in store. Just not my wedding presents 😄
Happy Thanksgiving!
